The Beauty of the Adelaide Botanic Garden

During my interview with Colin Hentschke one of the places he told me to photograph was the Adelaide Botanic Garden. A place I had completely forgotten about!

Located in the heart of the city the Botanic Garden occupies  41 hectares of land and includes gardens and buildings which date back to its original development in the 19th century. Read about its history here.

It is one of those places I always tell tourists to visit but never go to myself. So I decided it was finally time to revisit and to my delight it was an amazing source for photos.

It is great for photographers of all skills, however, if you are a beginner I would highly suggest going here. There are so many different objects to practice photographing and you do not have to walk very far to find them.

So, read below to see my tips and favourite places to photograph in the Adelaide Botanic Garden!

1. The Statues

These are perfect for practicing how to take photos of people and can be done without any complaints from an inpatient model!

2. Pathways

The pathways are just beautiful, especially if you go on a sunny day and get shadows which will give your photos depth. The only time shadows can be good!

3. The Flowers

There are so many beautiful flowers to photograph. Hot tip! If you are using a IPhone use portrait mode. This will give you a high-quality result without the use of a professional camera.

4. Love Trees

Whilst I do not recommend engraving your name in a tree, these create great pictures which tell a story. They are literally the definition of a ‘picture is worth a thousand words’.

5. The Palm House Conservatory

This one is for people who love both nature and architecture. The heritage listed conservatory is not similar to any other glasshouse worldwide, which is perfect for giving your photos that unique edge.

6. Santos Museum of Economic Botany

Here you will find some amazing historical pieces, as well as some unique displays which will make your photos stand out.

7. The Animals

The birds, the bees and the ducks! This a great place for practicing photographing animals. Just beware of the magpies!!

Still not quite sure? What if I told you that access was completely free!
